What is a Limited Edition?

Limited edition artworks have been a standard practice in printmaking from the nineteenth century onwards. A limited edition is a series of identical artworks, which are limited to a one-time printing of a certain number of pieces. The artist determines the size of the edition, and usually signs and numbers each individual piece.

Some limited edition artwork may also be hand-embellished. It is a process of painting onto an artwork after it is printed. The artist will usually pick out certain areas to highlight, either to create a texture similar to the original, or to pick out gold and metallic colors that can't be reproduced.

What is Retail Value?
Retail value is the price an item may be offered on regular basis in either the United States or abroad before any kind of discounts, sales, or promotions. The retail value of an artwork is usually set by the publisher of the artwork, artist, or fair market value.
I want to order a limited edition artwork... Will I receive the same number shown in the product picture?

With limited edition artworks, you may receive an artwork with a different annotation other than the one shown in the picture. This does not affect the value of the artwork. If you would like to inquire about the availability of certain number in a limited edition, please contact customer service.

Price Match Guarantee will make every possible attempt to match or beat the advertised price of any major Internet competitor, art gallery, or  frame shop; given that they are authorized to sell the item from the publisher or artist, and have the exact item in stock available for immediate sale.

Just contact customer service and tell us where you have seen the item along with a link to the actual item, if possible. We will promptly contact you with a price-match or beat that price. If we cannot match or beat that price, we will give you a free artwork. It is that simple!

Please Note: This guarantee excludes any previous sales, sold out or secondary market items, and items sold in online auctions. The item must be immediately available for purchase and listed at the correct price (i.e., the listed price is not a typographical error.) - This guarantee may not be available with all items on the website.

Will the value of a limited edition artwork increase over time like other collector items?

Demand for popular limited edition prints can be greater than the edition size released by the publisher. Once an edition is sold out from the publisher, a print from that edition is considered to be on the secondary market. This means that the print can be bought and sold, often above issue price (the release price set by the publisher). This all depends on the demand for that artwork. Protecting artwork from direct sunlight and other elements

Ultra-violet light, which is a component of daylight, can cause colors to fade and paper to discolor. You can minimize this aging process by hanging artworks away from direct sunlight and having them framed with conservation materials, including glazing which includes a UV-light filtering element.

Relative humidity and temperature are well-known risk factors requiring careful consideration. It is highly recommended that you do not hang precious artworks in kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoors.

What is the difference between fine art prints, posters, and Giclees?

Fine art prints are produced using sophisticated reproduction processes such as lithography, and are usually produced on high quality acid-free paper. On the other hand, posters are normally produced using lower quality inks and printed on thin, high gloss stock paper. Posters are also considerably less expensive than fine art prints.

Limited edtions original prints and fine art prints are printed using sophisticated printing techniques such as lithography or serigraphy. They are printed on thick archival quality paper or canvas with inks that last for decades. Besides the exquisite quality of a fine art print, limited edition prints are valuable and may appreciate in value depending on certain factors.

Another high quality fine art printing medium is Giclee prints, which are created typically using professional printers. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets. The Giclee printing technology utilizes microscopically fine droplets of ink to form the image. A Giclee can consist of nearly 20 billion ink droplets. The microscopic droplets of ink vary in sizes (approximately the size of a red blood cell) and density. This unique patented feature produces a near continuous tone image, smoother gradation between tones, and a more finely differentiated color palette. Numerous examples of giclee prints can be found in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Chelsea Galleries.

Recent auctions of giclee prints have fetched $10,800 for Annie Leibovitz, $9,600 for Chuck Close, and $22,800 for Wolfgang Tillmans (April 23/24 2004, Photographs, New York, Phillips de Pury & Company.)

Why does my local art gallery tell me not to purchase art over the Internet?

Your local art gallery most probably does not want to lose your business, or is simply referring to certain auction websites, which have had a shaky reputation as a result of fakes and forgeries being sold to novice collectors.

On average, our customers save between 20 - 70% over their local gallery or frame shop. offers a "Price Match Guarantee" policy with every item in stock, in addition to a "lifetime authenticity guarantee" with every limited edition or original work of art.
